One of the best ways to learn about the Children’s Hospital of Georgia is to take a tour of the hospital and hear from the best! That’s what the Youth Leadership Columbia County program did as a one of its many “career days.”
More than 30 high school students will take the day off from class and visit area companies and organizations based around a certain theme. The health care theme brought them to several hospitals, including the Children’s Hospital of Georgia, where they walked through each floor of the hospital and learned from staff about each unit’s function and importance.
After the tour, presentations were made by some of the staff who taught them about their role in the hospital. The students heard from AirCare nurses, Child Life Specialists, hospitalists and occupational therapists and were able to ask questions about their work and what brought them to the hospital.
Each sophomore or junior high school student in the program is selected based on their potential leadership and will influence a positive and progressive community, and many have an interest in the healthcare system.
