Erica Ford
Professional bookworm, pro-caffeinator, plant whisperer, and true crime documentary addict. My life is a chaotic blend of caffeine, pages, paws, and mysteries. I’m juggling life as an RN, a spouse to my partner-in-crime, a referee for my three kids, a cat herder, and a dog wrangler. Just trying to keep the caffeine flowing and the plants alive while solving mysteries on screen and in real life. Fun Facts: I have a knack for turning caffeine into questionable life choices, and I’m a firm believer that ice cream is a suitable breakfast food.
Marviel Paano
My name is Marivel S Paano BSN RN CCRN CSC, and I have been a Registered Nurse for more than 38 years, with most of that experience in CICU and CCU. I have practiced both in the U.S. and abroad, spending 14 years in CCU in Saudi Arabia. My American dream came true in early 2003 when I joined Shands Hospital at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fla. I spent almost 18 years working in CICU, taking care of very challenging post-op cardiac patients with heart and lung transplants, LVADS and ECMOs. I am forever grateful for that experience and for all the patients I was honored to care for.
More than four years ago, I was given the opportunity to join MCG Health (formerly AU Health) in SICU. When CVICU opened, I was one of the few nurses transferred at that time. I became a charge nurse, preceptor and mentor, especially to the night shift staff, responsible for the open-heart patients. When the LVD program started, I was honored to be asked to take care of the very first patient until their discharge.
In my off time, I always look forward to spending time with my husband, Robert, my family, my fur babies, Chloe and Brandon, and my garden.
I am so grateful to work with such a dynamic young staff who are dedicated and eager to learn and take on new experiences. I am proud and blessed to be a part of CVICU and a recipient of the SHINE award.

I humbly take pride in my role as a Patient Care Technician, which I started in October 2023. Previously, I worked as a Medical Assistant/Scribe for two years. Currently, I am diligently working toward applying for the esteemed medical residency programs with the Medical College of Georgia, transitioning from my prior role as a General Practitioner in the Philippines. Every patient I meet holds a story and a life lesson to share. Each day at work is fulfulling. I am blessed to work with the CVICU team because we look out for each other like a family. On the rare days when my husband and I are off, we enjoy jogging on the trails around Augusta.
