Positivity rates for COVID-19 are skyrocketing. Lines for testing are long and testing supplies are at times short. Long turn around times are also causing frustration among the public.
But behind the scenes is a profession that had little attention before the pandemic hit, and for a variety of reasons is becoming almost a dying field. Now the demand for COVID-19 testing is highlighting the struggles of medical laboratory professionals, who not only process COVID-19 tests, but any number of medical diagnostic tests.
AU Health’s immunology lab director Dr. Brandy Gonsolus discussed the staffing shortage with CNBC reporter Kate Rogers on two shows Nov. 7.
